Hi,
I'm happy to tell you a little about myself. I have enjoyed learning
music nearly all my life from Piano to Classical Guitar to Singing and
Songwriting. But as I have only played the tin whistle since 1997 I
remember well the difficulties, as well as the joys, of learning to
play. And I know that we all need a helping hand to bring out the best
in ourselves. I was fortunate to find excellent traditional music
teachers along the way. In particular, from 2003 to 2005, I joined the
University of Limerick for a two-year full time MA course in traditional music
performance specialising in tin whistle. My chosen teachers there were:
Mary Bergin, Seán Ryan, Carmel Gunning, Peter Phelan and Gavin Whelan.
I also received valuable help from Niall Keegan and Brian Finnegan.
In 2005 when I had completed my MA, I opened the Dingle Music School were I
have taught music for the last four years. Dingle, in County Kerry is a
small but popular town on the South West coast of Ireland. It is a town
with a rich musical heritage where traditional music is widely played and
enjoyed every day of the year. Through the music school I have helped
many more than a hundred people to start out on a musical journey. And
all those who have come to me for lessons have also inspired me in their
turn. Now through this website I hope to maintain that personal contact
with students, and create a genuine 'virtual' music school online.
It is my aim to recreate online the personal involvement with students that is
vital to a successful learning experience. Many sites offer prepared
lessons free of charge, but I believe this may be the first site to offer real
and personal lessons in the form of tailored recordings to suit the needs of
each individual. As in any one to one learning situation you pay
only for the time I spend on your behalf and you can be sure you will receive
in return a genuine and personal tin whistle lesson online.
Best wishes, and enjoy the site.
