All the tunes form part
of the repertoire of any learner of traditional Irish music. It is
always my aim that students learn authentic tunes and the best way to practice
and to enjoy learning Irish music is to begin learning great tunes from the
start. The first ten tunes on the home page are designed and played for
absolute beginners so with a bit of help you will soon be on your way to
playing this great music for yourself.
On the "More Tunes" page there are another forty traditional tunes
to choose from. The tunes were carefully selected to allow you to choose
from as wide a range as possible. They include all the main categories
of Irish music: reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas, slides, slip jigs, marches and
airs. The recordings have been made with a simple microphone (my webcam
mic in fact) and no special effects. The reason for this is that you the
learner will have no difficulty in producing music of the same quality as the
recorded examples.
The online recorder supplied with each Playpack is the same as the one that
you can experiment with via the Recording Portal on the Home Page. It is
of course a very basic recording device but it does the job. If you
would like to experiment more with recording at home and use a more
sophisticated online recorder for sending in your recordings for assessment, I
can fully recommend Audacity. This is a free Audio Editor and Recorder
readily downloadable and quite easy to use. Just Google Audacity to find
this excellent recorder for yourself.
